Wyomissing has a little local company in the state football rankings.

Exeter, in Class 5A, and Twin Valley, in Class 4A, debut in the rankings as Teams To Watch after resounding Week 1 victories.

The Spartans remain No. 2 in Class 3A after opening with a 56-7 win at Kennard Dale.

The appearance in the state rankings is nothing new for the Eagles, who have appeared frequently in the Top 10 over the past two seasons; they were ranked as high as No. 2 late last season. They beat Daniel Boone 42-7 in Week 1.

It’s a different story for the Raiders, who had been listed in the PennLive.com rankings just once before in their history. Twin Valley, a favorite in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, opened its season with a 44-13 win over visiting Schuylkill Valley, the Section 5 favorite.

This marks the Spartans’ 331^st appearance in the PennLive.com rankings, more than any other Berks team. Wilson has appeared 325 times. Kutztown and Fleetwood are the lone Berks teams never to appear in the rankings.

St. Joseph’s Prep remains No. 1 in Class 6A after a 17-14 opening-game loss to IMG Academy of Florida. IMG is ranked No. 4 in the nation by HighSchoolFootballAmerica.com; St. Joe’s slipped one spot to No. 10 nationally.

St. Joe’s plays at St. Peter’s Prep of New Jersey this week; the Hawks won’t play a Pennsylvania opponent until Sept 29, when they play at Archbishop Wood. St. Peter’s is 0-1 and ranked No. 156 in the nation by HSFA.

In Class 5A, preseason No. 3 Gateway dropped to No. 10 after a 28-7 loss to unranked Mount Lebanon 28-7.

In Class 3A, preseason No. 3 Neumann-Goretti lost 35-14 to Cincinnati Elder in Ohio; Elder (1-1) is ranked No. 131 in the nation.

In District 3, Bishop McDevitt remains ranked No. 1 in Class 4A and Steel-High remains No. 1 in Class 1A.

Manheim Central is No. 4 in Class 4A.

Trinity is No. 5 in Class 2A; the Shamrocks host Wyomissing in Week 3.
