Fleetwood’s William Maurek first-half leader in Berks specialist competition

A nearly perfect first half of the season has vaulted Fleetwood’s William Maurek to the top of the Berks Specialist of the Year standings.
The 6-2 senior leads Berks kickers with five field goals, is tied for the lead with 12 touchbacks and has been good on 15-of-15 PATs. He has converted 83.3 percent of his field goal attempts and has the longest field goal of the season among Berks kickers, at 42 yards.
The Specialist of the Year standings are based on rankings of extra-point and field goal accuracy, field goal length, touchbacks, and punting average.
John Zima, founder of Kick-It and special teams coach at Wyomissing, collects the data and computes the standings. He awards the top finishers at the end of each season. This is the sixth season of the award.
Maurek has a Berks-leading 30 kicker points, has a 32.5-yard punting average and owns the longest punt of the season, at 53 yards. He has a 91.2% score.
Wilson’s Ben Rada is second at 61.%. The 5-9 senior has kicked one field goal, converted all 19 of his PATs and has the top punting average at 40.5.
Twin Valley’s Sam Frey is third at 54.5%. He has made a 38-yard field goal, second-longest of the season, and has converted each of his 23 PATs.
Conrad Weiser’s Alex Malone is fourth, Wyomissing’s Keegan Maher fifth and Twin Valley’s Jack Hafer sixth. Hafer shares the lead with 12 touchbacks.
Conrad Weiser’s Adam Noll was the Specialist of the Year in 2022. He kicked six field goals and had the second-longest of the season, at 46 yards. He was second overall in punting average at 39.1.
Berks Catholic’s Andrew Kurtas was the runner-up last year; Schuylkill Valley’s Noah Wamsher finished third.
