MANHEIM — Nothing like some milkshakes to wash down the taste of victory.

The Barons earned the treats, via the Manheim Farm Show happening right next door, as a reward for their dominating 42-3 win over Fleetwood in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 game Friday night.

The loss was the fifth straight for the Tigers (0-4, 2-6) and marked the third straight game in which they failed to produce a touchdown. Their only points came off a 27-yard field goal from Gryffin Cappellano.

Fleetwood was without starting quarterback Chase McMonagle, who was knocked out of last week’s loss to Warwick with an injury.

Manheim’s Cody Hess made the most of his final regular-season home game with two fourth-quarter touchdowns: a 20-yard run early in the fourth quarter and a 16-yard interception return.

The Barons defense smothered the Tigers from start to finish, holding them to 107 total yards, including 25 rushing yards on 27 carries.

Manheim also recorded two interceptions and opened the game with a safety when the snap to punter Chase Adams sailed over his head and out of the end zone.

“Our defense did a really good job,” said Barons coach Dave Hahn. “We wanted to play a dominant game. We needed to play a dominant game for our own psyche.”

The Barons (3-1, 5-3) settled for a 19-3 lead at the break, thanks to a 40-yard TD pass from Logan Kappel to Dylan Henninger, a 6-yard TD run from Logan Geib, a 26-yard field goal from Cayden Chacon and the safety.

Hahn felt the Barons didn’t take advantage of some opportunities.

“They just needed a good old-fashioned pep talk at halftime,” Hahn said. “We just left things out there in the first half that were there, but we didn’t execute. In the second half, we came out with a little more intensity and we were able to make things happen.

The Barons travel to New Holland next Friday night to face Garden Spot; the Tigers host Section 3 leader Solanco.
