Fleetwood’s William Maurek converted each of his four PAT attempts last week in a 52-28 loss to Ephrata to remain on top in the Berks Specialist of the Year race, though the standings have tightened.
The 6-2 senior leads Berks kickers with five field goals and is second with 12 touchbacks. He has converted 83.3 percent of his field goal attempts and has the longest field goal of the season among Berks kickers, at 42 yards. He has a 78.3% rating.
The Specialist of the Year standings are based on rankings of extra-point and field goal accuracy, field goal length, touchbacks, and punting average.
John Zima, founder of Kick-It and special teams coach at Wyomissing, collects the data and computes the standings. He awards the top finishers at the end of each season. This is the sixth season of the award.
Wilson’s Ben Rada is second at 60.7%. The 5-9 senior has kicked one field goal, converted all 29 of his PATs and has the top punting average at 40.5.
Twin Valley’s Sam Frey is third at 54.3%. He has made a 38-yard field goal, second-longest of the season, and has converted each of his Berks-leading 38 PAT attempts. Frey leads with 41 points scored.
Schuylkill Valley’s Reese Wamsher is fourth at 41.2%. He’s second in PATs, going 34-for-34, and third with 10 touchbacks.
Conrad Weiser’s Donovan Gingrich has the longest punt of the season, 56 yards. Schuylkill Valley’s Cooper Hohenadel has a 55-yarder.
Conrad Weiser’s Adam Noll was the Specialist of the Year in 2022. He kicked six field goals and had the second-longest of the season, at 46 yards. He was second overall in punting average at 39.1.
Berks Catholic’s Andrew Kurtas was the runner-up last year; Schuylkill Valley’s Noah Wamsher finished third.
