Brody Nowotarski returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown and Fleetwood’s defense registered six sacks in a 22-10 non-league victory over Schuylkill Valley Friday night at Fleetwood.

The Tigers (2-1) trailed 3-0 when a bad snap caused a Schuylkill Valley punt to be partially blocked. The ball shot over to the right and Nowotarski picked it cleanly out of the air and sprinted into the end zone to ignite Fleetwood. Tristin McFarland added a two-point conversion run for an 8-3 lead.

The Fleetwood defense, led by senior defensive end Landon Hare, harassed Schuylkill Valley quarterback Logan Nawrocki throughout the game. The Panthers (1-2) struggled to get in rhythm on offense and finished with 167 yards.

Fleetwood had similar struggles on the offensive end but was able to lean on their two quarterbacks, McFarland and Chase Domenech, to grind out yards. McFarland finished with 53 yards rushing and Domenech had 44. Domenech sprung the big play with a 22-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-8 to give the Tigers a 22-10 lead with 2:39 left in the game.

Schuylkill Valley scored with 18 seconds left in the first half on a 63-yard touchdown pass from Nawrocki to speedster Kowen Gerner. Fleetwood led at halftime 16-10.

There was a ceremony before the game to retire the No. 66 jersey of Benjamin Miller. Miller, a senior on the 2023 Fleetwood team, tragically passed away earlier this year on January 11th after a car accident.
