Muhlenberg is looking to end Daniel Boone’s eight-game winning streak in the series when they meet tonight at Kutztown University’s Andre Reed Stadium at 7.

The Muhls have dominated the series – they lead 36-22-3 and once won 19 straight under John Yocum, from 1990-2008.

The tables turned in 2016. In five seasons with former Muhlenberg quarterback Rob Flowers as their head coach the Blazers went 5-0 against the Muhls. Flowers now coaches the Muhls.

The best game in the series came in 2003, when Muhlenberg won 41-34 in two overtimes.

In 2019 Boone’s Tanner Vanderslice set the Berks single-game rushing record against the Muhls, going for 403 yards.

The game was moved to KU due to safety concerns at Muhlenberg.

Gov. Mifflin and Hempfield met almost every season from 1975-2003 when the Mustangs played in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League. The series ended when Mifflin moved to the Berks Football League in 2004.

The two have met only once since 2003, a District 3 Class 4A Tournament opener in 2011, won by the Mustangs 2011.

They meet tonight in a non-league game at Landisville. Gov. Mifflin was placed in Section 2 when it returned to the L-L in 2022. Hempfield has remained in Section 1.

4

Mike Miller Jr.’s nine receptions vs. Reading High last week were the most by a Muhlenberg player in 16 years.

Brett Fox set the program record with 11 catches vs. Hempfield in 2008. He also had 10 catches that season vs. Gov. Mifflin.

Al Murray Sr. established the Muhlenberg record with 10 receptions vs. Gov. Mifflin in 1967.

5

Gov. Mifflin’s Reese Hohl, who led Berks with six interceptions in 11 games last season, has had one in each game so far, a 35-0 win over Pleasant Valley and a 31-14 loss at Perkiomen Valley

Hohl was a first-team all-league defensive back as a junior.
