Five Fast Football Facts for Week 2

  • Trey Freeman became the most prolific receiver in Twin Valley history last week, his 147 receiving yards in the 27-24 win over Garden Spot giving him 1,293. He topped the record of 1,282, set by Nick Kurtz in 2019.

  • Wilson leads Gov. Mifflin 7-2 in the Gurski/Linn Trophy series, which began in 2012 with a 21-0 Bulldogs victory in West Lawn.
  • Wyomissing’s Bob Wolfrum is 26-8-1 in season-openers after last week’s 41-14 win at Daniel Boone. The Spartans’ last opening-week loss came at Pottsville, 32-7, in 2016. They have won 10 of their last 11 openers.
  • Kutztown’s 27-14 win over Shenandoah Valley was its first season-opening win since 2009, when it beat it beat FitzSimons 29-14. The Cougars have won two straight. They have not won three in a row since 2016, when they beat Shenandoah Valley, Pequea Valley and Nativity in Weeks 2, 3 and 4 on the way to a 4-6 finish.
  • Quarterbacks Evan Myers of Twin Valley and Kyle Archie had efficient debuts. Myers, a freshman, completed 8-of-11 pases for 143 yards and one TD in a win over Garden Spot. Archie, a sophomore, completed 9-of-11 passes for 90 yards and ran for 48 yards in a loss at Ephrata.
