Five Fast Football Facts for Week 11

1

Before this season Hamburg and Schuylkill Valley traditionally ended their seasons meeting each other in the Frost Bowl. Neither ever played much after that.

The Panthers qualified for the District 3 Tournament just six times in their first 49 seasons; the Hawks made districts just seven times in their first 53 seasons.

Before this season they had each qualified for districts in the same year twice, in 2010 and 2013.

They’re among six teams in this year’s Class 3A field. Hamburg is the No. 4 seed and hosts Upper Dauphin Friday. Schuylkill Valley is the No. 6 seed and plays at West Perry.

2

Manheim Central has won the most District 3 championships, with 18. Bishop McDevitt (15) is next, followed by Steel-High (14), Cumberland Valley (13), Wyomissing (10) and Camp Hill (10).

Of that group, Bishop McDevitt (4A), Wyomissing (3A) and Steel-High (1A) are No. 1 seeds in this year’s tournament.

3

Unbeaten Wyomissing ended the regular season with an average winning margin of 35.2 points, fourth-highest in Berks history.

Berks Catholic set record (41.3) during an unbeaten 2017 season. Wyomissing is second on the Berks list, with a 37.0 winning margin in 2021. Muhlenberg is third at 35.3.

The Muhls accomplished that feat in 1992. They are the only team from the 20th century still among the top 10 teams on the list.

4

Bishop McDevitt and Manheim Central share the record for District 3 playoff victories, with 59.

Cumberland Valley is next with 50, followed by Wilson (42), Wyomissing (38) and Steel-High (31).

5

Wyomissing can become just the fifth program to win four consecutive District 3 football championships. Manheim Central has the record, with 10 straight (1992-2001). Bishop McDevitt won six straight, from 2010-15. Cumberland Valley (1991-94) and Steel-High (2005-08) each won four in a row.

Berks Catholic (2015-17) is the only other Berks program with three in a row.
