Five Fast (District 3 Tournament) Facts for Week 11

Wyomissing has qualified for the District 3 Tournament for 19 straight seasons, the longest active streak in the district.

Next-longest is Lampeter-Strasburg, with 16 straight, followed by Harrisburg and Steel-High, 13 each, and Lancaster Catholic, 11 straight.

Manheim Central saw its streak of 28 straight appearances, and Bishop McDevitt its streak of 16 straight, snapped in 2020 when the playoff fields were reduced due to COVID-19 protocols. Wilson’s streak of 14 straight appearanced end that year, as did Exeter’s streak of nine and Berks Catholic’s streak of eight.

Bishop McDevitt has won more District 3 playoff games than any other program. The Crusaders are 65-9. The other top winners: Manheim Central (63-17), Cumberland Valley (51-18), Wyomissing (42-18), Wilson (24-24), Steel-High (33-9), and Cocalico (33-19).

Manheim Central has won more District 3 titles (18) than any other program, but the Barons won’t win No. 19 this season: They did not qualify for districts after a 3-7 finish.

Bishop McDevitt is next with 17 titles and could win another this year.

The other top champions: Steel-High (16), Cumberland Valley (13), Wyomissing (12), and Camp Hill (11); each is in the tournament again this year.

Wilson and Cumberland Valley are next in line: Each is making its 32nd appearance this season.

Wyomissing has qualified for the 31st time, fourth-most.

Northern Lebanon has lost more District 3 playoff games without winning a game than any other program: The Vikings are a woeful 0-7 in districts. In their most recent appearance, in 2021, they lost 65-3 to Wyomissing; they have never been closer than 10 points in any of their seven losses.

Other teams without a win in districts: Fairfield is 0-6, Eastern York and Susquenita 0-3, Altoona and Lebanon 0-2, and Fleetwood and Octorara 0-1.

Only one of those teams qualified this year: Octorara. The Braves are the No. 9 seed in Class 4A and open at No. 8 Elco, a team they’ve already lost to this season.
