Fearless Friday Football Forecast for Week 2 (updated with results)

2023 Berks football coverage presented by

Utilities Employees Credit Union

Like a pitcher taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning, Fearless Forecaster Chris DeAntonio had a chance for perfection last week . . . oh, if only he hadn’t gone out on a limb looking for a Pig Bowl upset by picking Daniel Boone.

Oh, well. Chris finds himself on top nonetheless, his 12-1 record the best among the 13 Fearless Forecasters in Week 1. Four others missed two games.

There was nothing resembling a major upset in the opening week, though those of us homers who went with Muhlenberg over Octorara got smacked. Make that doubly-smacked for the four Forecasters who doubled-down on the Muhls.

An even bigger “upset,” at least according to the Forecasters, was Warwick edging Cocalico, 17-14. Only one person went with the Warriors . . . and that’s why Chris D. sits alone in first place after one week.

The Forecasters panel is divided on a couple of Week 2 games: Reading High vs. Muhlenberg in the “Battle of the Border” and York Vo-Tech vs. Kutztown. Flip a coin; most of us did.

Just three consensus picks: Wyomissing over Pottsville, Conestoga Valley over Daniel Boone and Hamburg over Warrior run. You shouldn’t expect too many people to pick against the Spartans this season.

Each week, MikeDragoSports.com staff writers and photographers, along with Jeff Reinhart of football partner LNP/Lancasteronline, and Daryn Zeiner of Jerry Geleff Media will pick the games. We’ll keep standings and the Forecaster with the most points at the end of the season will get a big prize! (Big being a relative term.)

Each correct pick earns one point; if a Forecaster “doubles down” and is correct he gets two points. If he misses: 0-2.

Remember: Each Fearless Forecaster can only “down double” on a team once during the regular season (and once again during the postseason).

Have fun with the picks but don’t take it personally if we pick against your team.
