In order to break the long-standing Berks County single-season rushing record Exeter’s Leo Brown needed a little help from his friends – the guys up front, on the offensive line.

He is joined by two of them, center Joel Ummarino and guard Andre Osborne, on the Pennsylvania Football News Class 5A Coaches Select All-State team.

All three are first-team picks.

They’re joined by teammate Aidan Dauble, a second-team pick at linebacker.

Alex Reali of Berks Catholic and Logan Cammauf of Schuylkill Valley are second-team picks on the Class 3A team.

The teams are selected in voting by coaches across the state; more than 300 nominated players and took part in the voting. Seventy players were named to both the 5A team and 3A teams.

Teams in Class 2A, 4A, and 6A will be announced Wednesday afternoon.

Brown rushed for 2,444 yards, breaking the 42-year-old Berks rushing record set by David Gilmore. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry and scored 29 TDs.

He set a program record with 11 straight 100-yard games and had six games of 200-plus with season-high of 305 against unbeaten Conestoga Valley.

The 6-3, 260-pound Ummarino had a 96% blocking grade with 45 pancakes. He also led the Eagles defense with 15 tackles for loss, had 7.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hurries, and a team-high three fumble recoveries.

Osborne, a 6-1, 235-pound senior, was an all-league pick on both offense and defense in Section 2. He was considered by his coaches an “enforcer” on the offensive line and praised for his excellent technique, which led to a 94% blocking grade and more than 50 pancakes.

Ummarino and Osborne were key elements in helping Exeter become the only team in Berks history to produce 2,000-yard rushers in consecutive seasons. Jayden Zandier went over 2,000 last season.

He had 7.5 tackles for loss, six quarterback hurries, two sacks, two pass breakups, an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

Reali, a 6-0, 210-pound sophomore, was selected at placekicker after converting six field goals, three of more than 40 yards, with a 47-yard high. He converted 45-of-46 PATs and put half of his 60 kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks.
