Exeter senior Kyle Lash is Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week

Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week

When you line up next to several all-league linemen, as Kyle Lash did last season at Exeter, you might not get a lot of notice.

Lash is getting it now. He was hard to miss Friday night when he recorded five tackles for loss and three quarterback hurries in a 38-10 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 win over Conestoga Valley.

“He played in their backfield most of the night,” said Eagles coach Matt Bauer. “He was definitely a force on defense. He’s really locked in and focused and he’s making the most of his senior year.”

Lash, a defensive tackle, helped the Eagles limit the Buckskins to five first downs and 32 rushing yards in 24 attempts to earn Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week honors for the second time. He was also selected for the honor last season.

Lash is a two-year-, two-way starter. He was a second-team all-league pick on offense at guard as a junior and has been a vital part of an Eagles line that has dominated play every week. Exeter is averaging 42.5 points per game, the highest of any Class 5A team in the state.

The unbeaten Eagles are ranked No. 2 in the state, behind Upper Dublin, by PennLive.com.

Lash was a key part of Exeter’s first District 3 championship team last season.

“Kyle’s motor is second to none,” Bauer said. “He just plays the game at such a high level, and at such a fast pace.

“I just love the way he approaches the game. He is so intense and so physical and never takes a play off.”

The 6-1, 210-pound Lash is second on the team with 10 tackles for loss, second with 3 1/2 sacks and third with 36 tackles.

He’s part of a defensive line that includes Delaware recruit Anthony Caccese and Penn State recruit Joey Schlaffer yet still manages to get out from under that shadow.

He played on an offensive line last season that included three all-league picks.

“He’s definitely an unsung hero, and I think he’s fine with that,” Bauer said. “He’s very unselfish. He’s just a great all-around kid and he’s happy for his teammates (when they earn notice).”

Lash transferred from Wilson before his sophomore year and moved into the Eagles defensive rotation midway through his first season at Exeter.

He is getting college looks from Pennsylvania Conference programs, according to Bauer.

Lash attends Antietam and plays for Exeter under the PIAA’s joint cooperative sponsorship program.

He is the third Exeter player to earn Lineman of the Week honors this season, following Palanage, in Week 1, and Caccese, last week.
