Exeter puts it all on the line in dominating L-L Section 2 all-league team

If Matt Bauer said it once he said it a hundred times: The heart and soul of his Exeter football team was its line.

Coaches around Section 2 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League agree: They named the Eagles’ Lucas Palange both the Outstanding Lineman and Offensive Lineman of the Year, Kyle Lash the Defensive Lineman of the Year and Anthony Caccese a two-way first-team pick, at tackle and interior defensive line.

Combined, the three seniors occupy six spots on the first team.

Palange was also named co-Linebacker of the Year, giving the section champion Eagles four of the nine major awards presented by the Section 2 coaches at the league’s annual coach’s banquet Tuesday night.

Overall, Exeter had 12 first-team picks, two more than Section 2 runner-up Manheim Central.

Gov. Mifflin had three first-team picks: Center Damien O’Brien, placekicker Jackson Schools and defensive end Mykel Ford.

Muhlenberg had two first-team picks: Running back Gio Cavanna and long snapper Wes Clemison.

Exeter’s other first-team picks: Running back Richie Karstien, tight end Zach Zandier, Athlete Joey Schlaffer, defensive end Joey Reedy, linebacker Jonathan Martin and defensive back Nathan Pashley. Lash was selected at guard and interior defensive line; Palange was picked at inside linebacker.

Bauer was named Coach of the Year, taking the Eagles to the title in their first year in the league.
