Exeter knocked out of Class 5A Top 10 after first loss of season

Exeter tumbled out of the Class 5A Top Ten after seeing its program-record 20-game regular season winning streak end with a 34-27 loss Friday to Conestoga Valley at Don Thomas Stadium.

The Eagles had been in the PennLive.com Top 10 since debuting at No. 9 following a 2-0 start. They moved to No. 6 the following week, then to No. 4 and finally to No. 3 after five weeks. Exeter remained No. 3 for four weeks. It is now listed as a Team To Watch.

Wyomissing remains the only Berks team in the Top 10. The Spartans remain at No. 2 in Class 3A, where they started the season.

Wilson, which has won seven straight after an 0-2 start, appears in the rankings for the first time this season, as a Team To Watch in Class 6A. The Bulldogs are one of four Berks teams with that status, along with Twin Valley in Class 4A, Schuylkill Valley in 3A and Exeter.

Wilson is listed in the state rankings for the 325th week; only Wyomissing (338) has more appearances among Berks teams.

Wilson, Exeter, and Wyomissing each have challenging games this week, facing Top 10 teams. The Bulldogs host Manheim Township, No. 4 in Class 6A; Exeter hosts Manheim Central, No. 8 in 4A; and Wyomissing plays at Lampeter-Strasburg, No. 10 in 4A.
