Twin Valley was missing its leading rusher Friday but that seemed to matter little as quarterback Evan Myers called his own number more often in leading the Raiders to a 40-10 win over Selinsgrove at Twin Valley Stadium.

One week after throwing for a career-high 238 yards, Myers did most of his damage with his feet, rushing for 99 yards and matching a program record by scoring four touchdowns.

The senior and four-year starter also set the program career record for completions as he hit on 14-of-19 passes. He has now completed 317 passes.

The Raiders (2-0), ranked No. 7 in state, had some early hiccups, yielding a long scoring drive by the Seals (1-1) on the game’s first possesion, then punting on their first possession.

The Raiders didn’t take long to hit stride after that. Evan Johnson broke off a 30-yard scoring run on the next possession, the first of six straight that ended in the end zone.

Myers scored on runs of 4, 40, 1 and 6 yards. His 40-yard breakaway put the Raiders on top 27-10 midway through the third quarter.

After that opening 13-play, 70-yard drive, the Raiders’ defense was excellent: It didn’t allow another point. The Seals were held to a minus-9 yards in the second quarter and finished with just 45 rushing yards on 28 carries.

Selinsgrove’s only touchdown came on a 90-yard kickoff return by Brett Rice midway through the second quarter, cutting Twin Valley’s lead to 13-10.

Evan Johnson rushed for 99 yards on 17 carries.

The Raiders played without Drew Engle, an all-league tailback last season as a sophomore.

The Raiders opened with convincing 42-16 win at Berks Catholic. Myers rushed for 111 yards and a TD.

The Seals opened with 14-6 win over Juniata, scoring the clinching TD with 2:40 remaining after forcing a fumble.

Matt Wenrich, who played on Selinsgrove’s 2009 state championship team, is in his first season as head coach; he was the defensive coordinator at Milton the past six seasons.

Twin Valley is coming off a season in which it set the program record with 10 wins and shared the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 title with Garden Spot and Ephrata. The Raiders are playing in Section 4 this season.
