Diohnny Ruiz and the Hamburg Hawks are off to a fast start.

The senior tailback rushed for 109 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 47-20 season-opening mercy rule victory at York Vo-Tech Saturday.
The Hawks led 26-0 midway through the second quarter and put the mercy rule into effect early in the third quarter after Ruiz’s 58-yard run.
Hamburg had 500 yards of total offense, 31 on the ground.
Ruiz averaged nearly 22 yards on his five carries and also caught two passes for 73 yards, including a 64-yard catch-and-run on a swing pass that gave the Hawks a 6-0 lead.
He averaged 8.1 yards per carry as a junior and 15.8 yards per reception, and scored eight TDs in six games.
Tristan Baer had a pair of TDs for Hamburg, on a 23-yard run and a 49-yard screen pass from Xander Menapace that made it 47-6.
Menapace completed 9-of-14 passes for 186 yards.
Freshman Aiden Readinger scored on a 15-yard run in the second quarter for Hamburg.
The Hawks were never forced to punt, though they did turn it over twice on fumbles.
The Spartans tacked on a pair of late TDs.
The Hawks host Northern Lebanon in their home opener Friday; the Vikings opened with a 13-7 win over Pine Grove.
