Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week: Jack Durning of Wilson
Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week
Jack Durning is good at multi-tasking on the football field. Not only does the Wilson center have to make the line calls and snap the ball, he often has to confront a nose tackle lined up directly in front of him.
He did all of those things well Friday in the Bulldogs’ 21-14 win over Manheim Township, earning Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week honors.
The Bulldogs’ offense controlled the game by rushing for 333 yards and by possessing the ball for nearly 32 minutes, compared to 16 for Township.
“Jack blocked well vs. their tough nose tackle, enabling us to rush for 333 yards,” Wilson coach Doug Dahms said.
He noted that Durning is an outstanding student and carries a 3.99 GPA, something that translates to the field.

“Jack has been the brains of our O-line all year,” Dahms said. “He’s responsible for initiating blocking scheme calls and often handling a man right over him.”
Durning, a 6-foot, 220-pound senior, is in his first year as a starter.
“Jack is a typical Bulldog lineman who paid his dues working behind the other starters for two years,” Dahms said. “This year, with his continued physical maturation, he has become a very consistent player at center.”
Wilson’s consistent play up front helped it close the season with five straight wins to claim the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 title.
Durning is the second Wilson player named Lineman of the Week this season. Jon Ramsey was selected last week.
The Bulldogs have earned three other weekly awards: Cam and Jadyn Jones have each been named Offensive Player of the Week; Cam Jones was named Defensive Player of the Week.
