Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week
At Wilson it all starts up front. Always has. The Bulldogs have had great players at many positions but their best teams are always grounded in solid line play. It’s been that way for over 50 years.
Dominic Memmo has provided plenty of that this season. He’s been the Bulldogs’ most consistent defensive lineman and had a big game Friday against York High, earning Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week honors.
“Dominic has a motor that doesn’t quit,” said Wilson coach Doug Dahms. “His quick first step and relentlessness cause him to be a pain to opposing QB’s.”
The 5-11, 200-pound senior tackle had four tackles in the 50-32 District 3 Class 6A quarterfinal win over York High. He had two tackles for loss and several hurries.
“He has been our most consistent pass rusher,” Dahms said.
For the season Memmo has 25 tackles, with a team-leading 11 tackles for loss; he shares the team lead with four sacks.
Wilson’s consistent play up front on both sides of the line helped it close the regular season with five straight wins to capture the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 title.
The Bulldogs take a six-game winning streak into Friday’s district semifinal against defending champ Central York.
Memmo is the third straight Wilson player named Lineman of the Week. Center Jack Durning was picked last week, guard Jon Ramsey the week before. The Bulldogs have earned three other weekly awards: Cam and Jadyn Jones have each been named Offensive Player of the Week; Cam Jones was named Defensive Player of the Week.
