Daniel Boone’s Colin Leahy named Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week
Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week
After some tough early losses Daniel Boone bounced back with a 45-17 win over Garden Spot last week.
One of the guys doing a lot of the bouncing was 6-4, 257-pound tackle Colin Leahy, who recorded 13 knockdown blocks in the Blazers’ first win of the season.
The sturdy senior earned the highest blocking grade among the offensive linemen, at 85 percent, and has earned Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week honors.
He is the first Boone player to earn individual honors this season on MikeDragoSports.com, which weekly selects the top offensive player, defensive player, and lineman in Berks football.
Leahy is a three-year starter. He earned all-league first-team honors as a junior at interior defensive line and second-team honors at offensive tackle.
“Colin has continued to improve each week,” said Daniel Boone coach Rob Flowers. “Colin was able to have some success on Friday because he stayed within himself and put forth max effort. I’m looking forward to seeing his continued growth this week.”
The Blazers churned out 436 total yards, 184 of it coming on the ground. AJ Hofer rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown.
The Blazers lost their starting quarterback, Carter Speyerer, on the second series of the season-opener; he is out for the year.
Sophomore Dean Rotter stepped in and had a big game against Garden Spot, throwing for 252 yards and four TDs.
Flowers is relying on his strong core of seniors to carry the Blazers through.
“Colin is a pleasure to be around,” Flowers said. “He is a student of the game, while having the ability to always encourage his teammates. His work ethic will support our program while we climb the ladder.”
