Daniel Boone forced to cancel tonight’s game; Week 10 game in jeopardy (updated)

Daniel Boone has canceled its game at Gov. Mifflin tonight due to positive COVID tests among players on the football team, and the rest of the team members having close contact with them.

With the start of the district playoffs just two weeks away the game can not be made up, and will be considered a no contest.

Daniel Boone’s season finale against rival Exeter is in jeopardy. The Blazers can not return to the field until Friday, Oct. 29; that game will have to be pushed back if it is to be played.

Gov. Mifflin, the top-ranked team in District 3 Class 5A, has played seven games, one above the minimum required to qualify for districts, so that won’t be a factor.

The same goes for Daniel Boone, which at 5-3 is fighting for a spot in the 5A field. The Blazers will not be penalized for not playing, and their power rating will not be affected by the cancellation. They are currently ranked No. 10.

This is the third game this season in which the Blazers have been affected by COVID issues; they played without their full lineup against Twin Valley and Berks Catholic because of close contact issues.

Boone is the second Berks team this week to cancel a game due to a COVID situation; earlier in the week Hamburg canceled its game vs. Twin Valley. The Raiders were able to pick up Executive Education Academy for tonight.

This is the third time this season an opponent has canceled on Gov. Mifflin. In Week 4, Cedar Crest dropped out, and Mifflin replaced it with Harrisburg. In Week 6 Reading High dropped out, and the Mustangs could not find another opponent.

Mifflin is scheduled to close the season next week at Berks Catholic, with the Berks Football League Section 1 title still in the balance.

Reading High missed two games due to its COVID situation. It also canceled against North County, Md.
