LEBANON — Conrad Weiser football coach Alan Moyer remembers the 2020 football season, when his Scouts were unbeaten before COVID-19 halted their season.
After downing host Lebanon 41-0 in a non-league game Friday night, Conrad Weiser is 3-0 and looking to record another memorable season.
Running back Javien Rivera filled in among a stable of rushers, carrying four times for 82 yards and two touchdowns before halftime.
“We have three or four guys battling for carries,” Moyer said. “Rivera is sneaky and elusive, but Jonathon McQuillen is, too. And Evan Miller is more of our power guy.”
The Scouts are deep, seasoned, and hungry heading into next week’s game Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 opener against Fleetwood.
Lebanon continues to battle and show glimpses of promise despite losing its 35th straight game.
With the game competitive early at Alumni Stadium, Lebanon tried to answer Weiser’s first touchdown. After a long kickoff return by Malachi Briddell to the Cedars’ 41, Lebanon advanced to the 49 in two plays. But quarterback Brandyn Castro went down with a leg injury on the second play.
His replacement was chased in the pocket and tossed two interceptions. A close game morphed into a 21-0 deficit after one quarter.
Castro’s backup later went down with a shoulder injury in the second quarter, forcing Castro to return and play despite harboring a limp.
Twelve players ran the ball for Conrad Weiser, led by Rivera with 82 yards. He scored touchdowns on runs of 23 and 26 yards, adding a burst to the outside that complemented the inside attack.
Conrad Weiser rushed 36 times for 277 yards.
