Cocalico rallied to beat Conrad Weiser 27-17 behind two touchdowns and 205 yards rushing from sophomore Logan Horning Friday night in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 game in Robesonia.

The loss is the fifth straight for the Scouts after beginning the season by reeling off four straight wins.

Conrad Weiser (1-5, 4-5) led 17-14 at halftime but was shutout in the second half.

The Scouts jumped out to a quick lead, scoring on the first play from scrimmage on Senior Night.

Connor Sellars hit Javien Rivera on a short pass and Rivera found room down the sidelines, outracing the defense to go 79 yards for the score to make it 7-0.

The Eagles (2-3, 3-6) tied it on a Horning 7-yard touchdown run capping a 59-yard drive.

The sophomore, whose twin brother Connor quarterbacks the Eagles, credited his offensive line.

“They opened up some big holes to run through,” he said. “It felt good.”

The Scouts took the lead again, capitalizing on a fumbled punt. Sellars ran it in from 22-yards out as the first quarter ended.

Cocalico tied it on a Rocco Colatta-Rigney touchdown in the second quarter as the Eagles ground and pound attack controlled the clock.

Owen Spang’s 39-yard field goal gave the Scouts a 17-14 lead at the half following a big completion from quarterback Carlo Woellner, who split duties under center with Sellars.

“We wanted to shake things up,” said Weiser coach Alan Moyer. “We’ve had a lot of guys go down to injuries. Penalties hurt us in the game. The offense sputtered a bit.”

The Scouts’ injury-depleted offense couldn’t get going in the second half as the Eagles marched down the field leading to two Breck Popolis field goals. Cocalico rushed for more than 340 yards.

Clinging to a 3-point lead late, Horning broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run to seal the victory for Cocalico.

“He’s a workhorse,” said Cocalico coach Bryan Strohl. “He rarely comes out of the game.”

Penalties hurt both teams. The Scouts were whistled for 11 penalties for 90 yards while the Eagles had nine flags thrown in their direction for 100 yards.
