As Conner Licklider goes, so go the Hamburg Hawks.
Early in the season that’s been pretty good. The junior second baseman and pitcher is off to a strong start for the preseason Division III Berks League favorite Hawks, who won their first four games.
Licklider came up big last week, batting .455 to help the Hawks to a pair of wins and earn Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week honors.
Licklider had a single, double, scored two runs and earned the save in a 6-3 non-league win over Conrad Weiser and had two hits and three RBIs in a 7-0 win over Wyomissing in Hamburg’s league opener.

Over three games he had five hits, four RBIs, scored three runs and compiled a 1.175 OPS.
“Slick has been a catalyst for this program since the day he arrived here as a freshman,” said Hamburg coach Nick Evangelista. “He is extremely talented and can do just about anything on the baseball field.
“When he is having success, our guys feed off that and it leads to success as a team.”
Licklider had a big sophomore season at the plate and on the mound. He batted .361 with 16 RBIs, nine extra-base hits and a team-leading 23 runs scored.
As a pitcher, he compiled a 1.70 ERA with 11 strikeouts over 12 1/3 innings. He was a Division III honorable mention selection.
Licklider is the second Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week for 2022 Berks baseball season.
