Cam Jones, Xander Menapace earn Mini Max honors

Cam Jones of Wilson and Xander Menapace of Hamburg were among 55 Pennsylvania players honored as Mini Max Award winners by the Maxwell Football Club, it was announced Monday.

Jones, a senior running back and cornerback, is Berks Player of the Year and a four-way all-league pick in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

Menapace, a senior quarterback, was an All-Berks pick who threw for a Berks-leading 1,833 yards.

Players were nominated by their coaches throughout the season and evaluated based on criteria including: football performance, academics and community service.

Jones and Menapace are among five Lancaster-Lebanon League players selected, including defensive back Alex Long of Annville-Cleona, linebacker Tyler Angstadt of Cocalico and quarterback Kye Harting Garden Spot.

The Maxwell Football Club selects a player from Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey for Player of the Year. These will be announced at the annual Mini-Maxwell Awards on Feb. 5 at the Drexelbrook Catering and Event Center in Drexel Hill.

Gov. Mifflin’s Nick Singleton won the Jim Henry Award last year.

The winners of the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware Player of the Year Awards will be the nominees for the club’s 37th Jim Henry Award for Outstanding Player in the Region. The Jim Henry Award winner will also be announced at the Mini-Max Awards on February 5, 2023.

Jones rushed for 999 yards, scored 25 touchdowns and set a Berks record with five punt returns for touchdowns. He is committed to play next season at Holy Cross.

Menapace led the Hamburg to nine wins, second-most in program history, and set program records for passing efficiency (153.5), completions (151), completion percentage (63.1), yards and TD passes (16) in a season and completions (245), completion percentage (61.7) and TD passes (32) in a career.
