Bulldogs pass by Red Tornado, stay unbeaten in Section 1

After a frustrating loss two weeks ago to Manheim Central, Wilson coach Doug Dahms insisted his team needed to throw the ball better.

Friday it did, as Brad Hoffman threw three second-quarter touchdown passes and Wilson reached the end zone six times in the second quarter in pounding McCaskey 59-12 in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 game at Gurski Stadium.

The Bulldogs (2-0, 4-3) scored 40 points in the second quarter.

The 59 points is the most ever scored in the series, which dates to 1975. Previously, it was 57 points, in Wilson’s 57-12 win in 2012.

Wilson leads the series 40-7-1, with 20 straight victories.

The Red Tornado (0-2, 2-5) scored the first touchdown, and Wilson led just 7-6 after a quarter.

The second quarter was a different story as Jadyn Jones ran for a 17-yard score and caught a 50-yard scoring pass, and Cam Jones returned a punt 51 yards.

Hoffman threw scoring passes of 6 yards to TJ Flite and 8 yards to Brady Kline, the second as time expired in the opening half with Wilson leading 47-12. The Bulldogs scored two TDs in the final 43 seconds of the first half and three times in the final 1:31.

Hoffman rushed for 83 yards, including a TD, and Jadyn Jones ran nine times for 65 yards.

Cam Jones went 43 yards on his only carry.

The Bulldogs rolled up 479 total yards of offense.

Shymere Covington accounted for most of McCaskey’s offense, rushing for 98 yards on 13 carries, including a 51-yard TD late in the first half.

Wilson’s first two possessions ended on interceptions; it’s next nine ended in the end zone.

The Bulldogs defense recorded eight tackles for loss, two by Flite, a linebacker.

Dale Sallie blocked a pair of PATs for Wilson.

Wilson is on the road the next two weeks, at Cedar Crest and Hempfield, before the regular season finale against Manheim Township Oct. 29 at Gurski Stadium.

The Blue Streaks improved to 2-0 in Section 1 with a 48-14 win over Penn Manor. Wilson and Township are the only unbeaten teams in Section 1 play.

Hempfield was beaten 20-13 by Cedar Crest Friday.
