Bruce Gumby of Berks Catholic and Logan Nawrocki of Schuylkill Valley are the 2024 recipients of the Bert Moore Memorial Scholarship awards, presented annually by the Reading Football Officials Association.
The award, now in its eighth year, is named in honor of Moore, a long-time Berks football official and past president of the organization.

It is awarded to Berks senior football players pursuing education beyond high school. Each recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship.
An RFOA committee reviews applications and selects recipients. Sportsmanship, teamwork, community service and citizenship are factors in selection.
Gumby, a senior running back and defensive back, led the Saints with 16 touchdowns, rushed for 878 yards and averaged 10.2 per carry.
He is a member of the student government Executive Council and the National Honor Society, carries a 4.0 GPA, and will graduate with over 200 hours of community service.
“Bryce is an outstanding athlete and an even better young man,” said his coach, Dave Stahler. “He is the most positive leader we have. He always tries to pick up his teammates with encouraging words and actions. I have never heard him say an ill word about a teammate, official or opponent.”

Gumby set a program record by rushing for 268 yards in a 30-28 loss to Lancaster Catholic; he scored four TDs in that game, as well as in a 49-14 win over Annville-Cleona. He rushed for 222 yards in a 35-34 win over Kutztown.
He shared the team lead with two interceptions.
Nawrocki, a senior quarterback, set at least 10 team records, including 35 touchdown passes in a season, which set a Berks record. His 63 career TD passes are second-most in Berks history behind only Wilson’s Chad Henne.
His 2,559 passing yards this season are third-most in Berks history; his 5,007 career passing yards are sixth-most.
He set a program-record with a 66.6 percent completion percentage, fourth-highest in Berks history.
“Logan’s dedication and commitment led him to success on the field,” said Schuylkill Valley coach Bruce Harbach. “He is focused on team goals, respects his teammates, keeps spirt high, and provides strong support for teammates experiencing distress. He is selfless and directs all of his focus towards team success.”
Nawrocki, a two-year starter and two-time captain, led the Panthers to the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 championship, the first outright title in program history. Last year they tied for the section title.
Nawrocki carries a 4.2 GPA, is volunteers at Holy Guardian Angels church, as an eighth-grade camp counselor, and as a camp instructor for Schuylkill Valley youth football and baseball.
Last year, Will Hess of Berks Catholic, Bryce Wunderlich of Gov. Mifflin and Colby Crills of Schuylkill Valley were the recipients of the award.
