Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week: Panthers’ Logan Cammauf
Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week
When Schuylkill Valley football coach Bruce Harbach said Logan Cammauf “was around the ball a lot” Friday at Annville-Cleona he wasn’t exaggerating.
The sophomore linebacker was in on nearly a third of the stops in a 14-13 victory that clinched a share of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 title for the Panthers.
Cammauf was part of a strong defensive effort that held the Dutchmen 135 yards below their rushing average and shut them out in the second half.
“Our defense is playing pretty good right now,” Harbach said, “and Logan’s one of the leaders of it.”
Cammauf was credited with 22 tackles Friday, including two for loss, and has been named Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week. He is the third Panthers defender to earn the award this season.
When All-State running back Dominic Giuffre was lost with a broken arm early in the season the Panthers had to relay more on their defense to win, and it has come through. The Panthers have allowed only eight touchdowns over their last five games, all wins.

Cammauf has obviously been a key to that. He leads the team with 77 tackles from his spot at inside linebacker.
“His motor never stops running,” Harbach said. “He finds the gaps and shoots the gap. (Friday) he was attacking the mesh point and that was our key”
(The mesh point is the spot a quarterback in a read-option offense sticks ball in the belly of the running back.)
Cammauf started seeing significant time at outside linebacker late last season, as a freshman.
He was moved inside this season. At 5-11, 160 pounds, he may be considered a tad undersized at that spot but the stats don’t confirm that.
“He’s tough as nails,” Harbach said. “I noticed him in junior high, how aggressive he was leading our junior high team. (Defensive coordinator) Jeremy (Crills) liked him as a linebacker, so we use him there.”
Schuylkill Valley is allowing 16.4 points per game, nearly 10 fewer than a year ago. Harbach said the key to that improvement has been moving several returning players to new positions. Colby Crills was moved from cornerback to safety, Cooper Hohenadel from safety to outside linebacker and Cammauf from outside to inside linebacker.
“That’s been a big difference for us,” Harbach said.
Cammauf was a second-team all-league pick at kick returner last season.
In the spring he’s a key member of the Schuylkill Valley track and field team, competing in each of the three jumps. He qualified for the PIAA Championship Meet in the triple jump and finished ninth in the state.
