Big 33 Classic moving across the river in 2024

The Big 33 Classic is getting a new address.

The Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association have announced that the game will be played at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field on Memorial Day weekend.

The game had been played at Bishop McDevitt, Central Dauphin and, for many years, at Hersheypark Stadium prior to that.

Wilson’s Cam Jones and Exeter’s Anthony Caccese helped Pennsylvania beat Maryland 31-27 this year.

The PIAA moved its football championships to Chapman Field last season for the first time.

“(This) allows us to house everything under one roof, with easy access to all indoor/outdoor, sports training facilities and adds vital parking,” said PSFCA executive director Garry Cathell. “We also hope to attract more host families who are located nearby, expand staff and volunteer support and acquire additional funding.

“Every year, the game continues to reach new heights and capacity has been growing in all aspects of our program, thus we are blessed to have this new opportunity to fulfill all of our diverse needs.”

Big 33 Memorial Day Weekend events are scheduled to start on Wednesday, May 22 and conclude on Sunday, May 26 with the 67th annual Big 33 Football Classic.

PSFCA East/West all-stars will play their Big School and Small School all-star football games at Chapman Field on Sunday, May 19.

Pennsylvania and Maryland players will practice at Cumberland Valley.

“We are proud to highlight our extraordinary, high-achieving, talented student athletes for one of the ultimate games in high school football,” said Cathell. “We look forward to the upcoming game featuring these future collegiate and NFL stars.”
