Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week
Josiah “Jay Jay” Jordan can score from any spot on the field and in any phase of the game.
He gave Berks Catholic a boost with a defensive score in a 39-29 win at Chichester Friday, returning an interception 55 yards for a TD to earn Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week honors.
“The Pick-6 was big for us,” said Saints coach Rick Keeley. “They were trying to come back on us, throwing the ball, and he made that play. It gave us a good cushion.”
Jordan’s return gave the Saints a 32-7 lead in the third quarter.
The 5-10, 160-pound junior made big defensive plays all night, breaking up three passes and recording four tackles.
Jordan plays the “field” cornerback position, responsible for the wide side of the field; teams are more likely to throw to that side. He’s assigned to that demanding spot because he’s the Saints’ best cover corner.
“He’s a great pass defender,” Keeley said. “He has a nose for the ball. With him in the secondary, we can score playing defense, too. He likes to go for the interception and if he gets it, he has the speed to take it back. He’s also a good tackler coming up on run support.”
Jordan is also a key component in the Saints’ Wing-T, where he plays halfback. He also ran for a TD against Chichester.
“He’s a strong kid, and he does a good job of blocking when we run the sweep,” Keeley said. “In the Wing-T, when you’re not carrying the ball you’ve gotta be blocking somebody. When he’s running it, he has the speed to score; he scored on the Speed Sweep for us.”
