Are you ready?
That’s what legendary Wilson football coach John Gurski asked his players before every game.
Monday morning, the Bulldogs — like every other team across the state — were ready for some football.
Monday signified the start of official practice for fall sports in Pennsylvania, but players and coaches have been building for this for months.
Last week teams went through five days of heat acclimatization workouts. Basically, practice without contact.
In the weeks and months before that players did daily workouts that included strength training, running, and agility drills, as well as well as offensive and defensive drills. Throughout the summer they have taken part in seven-on-seven passing drills, participated at team camps or worked indivually with private trainers to become stronger and faster.
It was all geared to be ready for Monday, and then for preseason scrimmages on Saturday, and finally for the season-openers on Friday, Aug. 27.
You can find a week-by-week schedule here, including Saturday’s scrimmages.
You can find each team’s regular season schedule on its home page, under schedules. Click here for Wilson’s schedule.
