Fleetwood, Boyertown, Schuylkill Valley qualify for postseason football berths (updated with game times)

Fleetwood, Schuylkill Valley and Boyertown will continue their football seasons in the Eastern Conference playoffs this week.

The Tigers (6-4) will host the Bears (4-6) in the Class 5A/6A championship game Friday at 7.

The Panthers (2-8) will travel to Nanticoke (4-6) for the Class 3A championship Friday at 7.

The Eastern Conference championships are an alternative for teams which do not make the district playoffs. Qualifiers are determined by a power rating system. The higher-rated team hosts.

Dates and times for the games will be established later in the week. The games can be held Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

This will be Fleetwood’s third Eastern Conference appearance. The Tigers also qualified in 2013 and 2014. Fleetwood just missed out on a District 3 Class 5A berth, finishing 15th in the 14-team field.

Schuylkill Valley’s last appearance in the EC playoffs was in 2018, when it lost to Palisades 38-0 in the Class 3A final. The Panthers also qualified in 2009.

Boyertown was last in the EC playoffs in 2017; it defeated Pocono Mountain East 48-20 for the Southern Division Class 5A/6A championship.

In the Class 1A/2A final, Holy Cross (4-6) plays at Executive Education (5-5) Saturday at 1.

In the Class 4A final, Saucon Valley (5-5) plays at Bangor (6-4) Thursday at 7.

Hamburg (2019), Daniel Boone (2018), Muhlenberg (2017), Conrad Weiser (2016), Wyomissing (2015) and Gov. Mifflin (2004) have won EC championships.

The EC playoffs were canceled last year due to COVID-19.

Gov. Mifflin (8-0) and Wyomissing (10-0) won the Class 5A/6A and Class 3A regular season championships, based on power ratings, and will be awarded trophies.

The other champions: Northwestern Lehigh (10-0) in 4A and Southern Columbia (9-1) in 1A/2A.
