Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week: Jon Ramsey of Wilson
Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week

Playing one-handed, or less, hasn’t stopped Jon Ramsey from being Wilson’s best lineman this season.
He broke a bone in his right wrist before the season began and will need surgery at season’s end. His right arm has been in a cast most of the season. On his left hand his middle finger through his pinkie are taped together because of another injury.
No matter, he plows ahead.
“He’s blocking with his forearms, because he can’t use his hands,” said Bulldogs coach Doug Dahms. “That makes it tough on him. Defensively, he doesn’t have the hands for gripping.”
That hasn’t stopped him from doing an outstanding job, as he did again last week in a 28-21 win over Hempfield when he forced a fumble, had a sack and recorded two tackles for loss. That performance earned him Diamond Credit Union Lineman of the Week honors.
“Jon is our leader on the O-line emotionally, and has played consistently good physical football all season,” Dahms said. “Defensively, he doesn’t make that many tackles because he’s the guy that draw the double teams. He’s on the tight end side.
“His job is to occupy two people, keep the linebacker free. That’s what he does best. Some kids wouldn’t accept that role; they want to make the tackle. He buys into it.”
The 6-2, 210-pound guard has been a key to the Bulldogs’ revamped running game, which cranked out 280 yards last week and 375 the week before in a win over Cedar Crest.
That strong play has helped the Bulldogs win four straight games and clinch at least a share of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1; they can win it outright by beating Manheim Township this week.
Ramsey is the first Wilson player to earn Lineman of the Week honors. Teammate Cam Jones has been named both Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week.
