Wyo’s Brewer, Jones, Weiser’s Rittle earn major awards in L-L Section 4

Caleb Brewer and Ryker Jones of Wyomissing and Evan Rittle of Conrad Weiser pulled in major awards in Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, it was announced Tuesday night at the annual coach’s banquet at Mount Gretna.

Brewer, a Penn State recruit, pulled off  a rare clean sweep by being named the section’s Outstanding Lineman, Offensive Lineman of the Year and Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Jones, who will play at Princeton next season, was named Linebacker of the Year.

Rittle, a junior, was one of two three-way picks, earning first-team honors as a wide receiver, defensive back and long snapper. He was also named Receiver of the Year.

Section 4 and District 3 Class 5A champ Cocalico had seven first-team selections, including three-way pick Aaron Longenecker, who was also named Defensive Back of the Year. Longenecker was also a first-team pick as a kick returner and an Athlete on offense.

Lampeter-Strasburg had a section-high nine first-team picks, including quarterback Trent Wagner and two-way pick Damoj Gray, a wide receiver and defensive back.

District 3 Class 3A champ Wyomissing, which is 13-1 and plays Friday in a state semifinal, had just four picks. Senior Ethan Brower was a repeat pick at wide receiver. The Spartans picked up seven second-team picks.

Conrad Weiser had four first-team picks, with punter Donovan Gingrich joining Rittle.

Berks Catholic had three first-team picks: Owen Reber, at guard and interior defensive line, and outside linebacker Conner Pennington.

Brewer, Rittle and Reber were among six two- or three-way picks, along with Longenecker, Cocalico tackle and defensive end Logan Brubacker and Gray.

Brewer was the only repeat two-way pick: He was named last year as a tight end on offense and tackle on defense.

Elco’s Jake Williams repeated as both as Outstanding Back and Offensive Back of the Year.

Also notable: Elco senior wide receiver Sara Miller was a second-team pick. She is the only female on the team.

There were first-team 10 repeat selections.

The teams are selected in a vote of Section 4 coaches.
