Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week: Raiders’ Evan Myers

Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week

As a freshman quarterback Evan Myers was generally locked onto his primary receiver. More than half his completions went to Trey Freeman, who set a Berks record for career receiving yards.

Two seasons later Myers is a much different passer. The Twin Valley junior sees the entire field, has the confidence to wait for plays to develop and the ability to check down to open receivers.

He showed that Friday in a 48-7 win over Hatboro-Horsham when his 14 completions went to eight different receivers, none of whom had more than four catches.

“He’s at the point where he’s working the entire field, gets good pre-snap reads and understands where he should be (with the ball), and when,” said Raiders coach Brett Myers, his father.

“He has a real good understanding of the offense and he understands his teammates and what they do well. He knows where the ball’s got to be for them to catch it, and he prides himself on distributing.”

Myers completed 14-of-20 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns to earn Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week for the first time.

Myers also ran three times for 45 yards and put the Raiders ahead with an early 5-yard TD run.

In the process he became Twin Valley’s all-time passing leader, with 3,972 yards.

That eclipsed the record of 3,935 by Zach Gardner, a three-year starter from 2016-18.

Myers has thrown for over 1,000 yards three times, matching Gardner as the only passer in program history to do that. He set the single-season record as a freshman when he passed for 1,498 yards.

Myers directs the top-rated offense in the 37-team Lancaster-Lebanon League, one generating 448 yards per game. Manheim Central is No. 2 at 417 yards. Twin Valley is also the only team in the league averaging both 300 rushing yards and more than 100 passing yards per game.

Myers is an effective runner – he averages over 7 yards per carry – who can add that element to the offense.

“Evan understands his role evolves with what the team needs, not what’s necessarily best for him,” Brett Myers said. “We know that every week he’s going to do whatever he needs to do and distribute the ball or run the ball for the team to be successful, and that’s been consistent for three years with him.”

Evan Myers is the third Twin Valley player selected Player of the Week this season. Running back Evan Johnson was selected in Week 6. Linebacker Lucas Myers, his brother, was named Defensive Player of the Week in Week 1.
