Preview capsule: Fleetwood vs. Upper Dauphin

Fleetwood (5-3) vs. Upper Dauphin (6-1)

Kick: Friday, 7, at Tiger Stadium.

Series: Tigers lead 1-0.

Last season: Fleetwood freshman Mason Musitano broke up a two-point conversion pass in the final minutes to preserve a 43-42 victory at Elizabethville. Tanner Maddock threw a 15-yard TD pass to Owen Maddocks, then ran for the two-point conversion to put the Tigers ahead for good at 43-36 early in the fourth quarter. Gavin Morris ran for 108 yards and three TDs for Fleetwood. Christian Snyder ran for 180 yards and two TDs for the Trojans.

Tigers update: A win over the Trojans will go a long way in securing the program’s second District 3 playoff berth in three seasons. . . Currently ranked No. 13 in Class 5A; top 14 make the playoff field. . . Close out regular season against Kutztown. . . Could qualify for the playoffs with a 6-4 record; seven wins will certainly be enough to make the field. . . QB Tanner Maddocks, a Villanova recruit, has thrown for 1,059 yards and 11 TDs. . . He also leads Berks with seven INTs from his safety spot… Gavin Morris has team-high 13 TDs and leads team with 755 rushing yards. . . Gage Moyer is averaging better than 10 yards per carry. . . Soph WR Mason Musitano has team-high 21 receptions. . . Senior TE Will Ryan is averaging 17 yards on his 15 catches. . . Finished 8-3 in 2019, their 19th season, to set a program record for victories and clinch first district playoff spot.

Trojans update: Have won five straight since a 20-0 loss to Juniata in Week 2… In second place in the Mid-Penn Liberty Division, trailing Juniata. . . Ranked No. 3 in District 3 Class 2A power rankings. . . Veteran offensive line and backfield return from team that finished 2-5 last season. . . Ground-based offense churning out 309 rushing yards per game. . . Brady Morgan, one of 15 return starters, leads the way with 624 rushing yards. He’s averaging 9.5 yards per carry and has eight TDs. . . Christian Snyder, who had a big game last season against the Tigers, averages 5.8 yards per carry and has 548 rushing yards. . . Wil Laskowski, the starting point guard on the basketball team, is a first-year starter at QB; he’s thrown just 57 times. . . Defense allowing just 8.2 points per game… Have 24 sacks and 14 takeaways, including eight INTs. . . Sat out Week 5 due to COVID issues.

Did you know? Upper Dauphin went 12-1 in 2019, beating Delone Catholic 36-28 for the District 3 Class 2A championship. It lost to Southern Columbia 63-22 in a state quarterfinal.

Fast fact: Of Upper Dauphin’s first seven opponents only two have winning records: Juniata and Executive Education Academy. The Trojans have not played a school larger than Class 4A. It’s opponent’s winning percentage is .373; Fleetwood’s is .559.
