A seventh straight win tonight, over McCaskey, will give Wilson its 600th victory since the program debuted in 1945.

The Bulldogs will be the fifth program in District 3 to reach the 600-win plateau, following Steel-High, Bishop McDevitt, Middletown and Manheim Central, which did it two weeks ago.

Current coach Doug Dahms owns more of those wins than anyone: 184 in his 18 seasons as head coach — 448 if you count his 30 seasons as an assistant coach.

John Gurski was head coach 151 of those victories, Gerry Slemmer for 129, Jim Cantafio 69, Robert Shaak 44, Robert Thompson 13, Tony Matz eight and Warren Eberly one. Eberly’s came in the Bulldogs’ first season, when they finished 1-4.

Hamburg’s Tyler Shuey is just the second Berks quarterback to pass for 2,000 yards in the regular season; he has thrown for 2,169 yards in eight games, tops in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

The first Berks passer to top 2,000 was Daniel Boone’s Jon Monteiro, who threw for 2,575 yards in the regular season en route to a Berks-record 2,969 yards in 12 games.

Through eight games Monteiro had 2,145 yards.

Manheim Township, which is 8-0 and ranked No. 4 in the state in Class 6A, has committed a league-low two turnovers.

Hard to do when you’re throwing the ball nearly 20 times per game but the Blue Streaks have an exceptional passer in Hayden Johnson. The three-year starter has thrown 143 passes: 33 have gone for touchdowns, none have been intercepted.

That is unheard of at any level.

Class 2A Central Clarion is the highest-scoring team in the state, at 61.8 points per game. The unbeaten Wildcats have scored 70 or points four times, with a season-high 86 in a shutout of Bradford Area. They have scored 41 or more in every game.

Steel-High is the highest scoring team in District 3. The defending PIAA Class 1A champs are averaging 48.5 points.

Manheim Township (45.8) is the highest-scoring team in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

Exeter (41.0) is the highest-scoring team in Berks.

Wilson owns a 21-game winning streak over McCaskey dating to 2004. Two of the wins in that streak came in District 3 playoff games.

Doug Dahms in 18-0 against the Red Tornado. Overall, Wilson leads the series 41-7-1. Tonight is the 50th meeting of a series that began in 1975.

In 1990 McCaskey won 16-14, handing the Bulldogs their only loss in a 10-1 season. Seven weeks later the Bulldogs came back to beat them 27-0 in a District 3-AAAA semifinal.
