Patrick Zerbe and Rodney Hill, key members of Wilson’s 2008 District 3 Class 6A championship football team, are set for induction into the Wilson Athletics Hall of Fame along with three others Friday prior to the Bulldogs’ home football game against Penn Manor.
Also set for induction are Adam Bainbridge, Sarah Deck, and Caitlyn Karr.
Zerbe and Hill were two-way standouts on a Bulldogs team that matched a program record for wins in a 14-1 season that saw them win the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 title and advance to the PIAA semifinals. They shared the Outstanding Lineman award in named Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League as seniors in 2008.
Zerbe, a linebacker and guard, earned the John Gurski Award, was Section 1 Offensive Lineman of the Year, an All-State second-team pick and won the Bill Brumach Sportsmanship award.
He walked on at Penn State, earned a full scholarship with his play at fullback and was a captain in 2013.
Hill was a three-year letterwinner, Section 1 Defensive Lineman of the Year and an All-State first-team pick as a senior. He earned a scholarship to Howard University where he was a four-year letterman.
He has made a career as a strength and conditioning coach, with stops at Penn State, Duke, the New York Giants, Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions. He is currently on staff at the University of Arkansas.
Bainbridge was an All-State and All-American pick in soccer and the Berks Player of the Year in 2012. He was an All-Berks pitcher for the Bulldogs and went to pitch at Old Dominion, where he earned all-conference honors and was later drafted by the Kansas City Royals.
Deck, a 2012 grad, was an All-State field hockey player and led the hockey and softball teams to division titles. She also earned letters in track and field. She went on to play field hockey at Temple University, where she was a captain and All-Big East pick.
Karr was Berks Swimmer of the Year in 2011 and a 13-time All-American. She set the Bulldogs record in the 200 and led the team to district and state championships. She was a district champ in the 100 and 200, went on to swim at Penn State and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials.
