Mason McElroy enjoys career day as Kutztown tops Bloomsburg
Mason McElroy had a career-best receiving day and Jerry Kapp caught a touchdown pass as Kutztown University beat Bloomsburg 34-7 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East game Saturday at Redman Stadium.
The win was the fourth straight for the Golden Bears (3-0, 5-1), and fifth straight overall in the series against the Huskies (0-3, 1-5).
Kapp, a redshirt junior from Boyertown, had a 4-yard touchdown catch late in the first quarter as Kutztown tied it 7-7. He finished with five receptions for 52 yards.
McElroy, a graduate student from Wilson, had a career-high five receptions for 128 yards, with a long of 42

Quarterback Eric Nickel completed 18-of-30 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns. His 45-yard scoring pass to Kaden Hastie gave the Golden Bears the lead for good with six seconds left in the first quarter.
Nickel also ran for a 1-yard TD three seconds before halftime as KU went up 21-7.
Kutztown is alone in first place in the East; every other school has at least one loss.
California, Slippery Rock and Indiana are each unbeaten in West Division play; Cal and Slippery Rock are each 6-0.
Kutztown’s only loss came 29-26 at Indiana Sept. 11.
Kapp leads the team with 24 receptions, 493 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. He’s averaging 20.5 yards per catch.
McElroy is second on the team with 19 receptions; he’s averaging 14.6 yards per catch.
Adam Kase, a sophomore from Conrad Weiser, started at right tackle for the Golden Bears.
Gov. Mifflin grad Kam Wolfe, a junior linebacker, had two tackles. Wolf is fifth on the team with 25 tackles, including 17 solos. He has two sacks and three tackles for loss.
Bloomsburg leads the series 23-8.
