Hamburg’s Diohnny Ruiz is Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week
Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week
Diohnny Ruiz might not have the fastest 40-yard time around but the Hamburg running back has “football speed,” and that’s all that really matters on a Friday night.
“He’s not gonna run a 4.5 40,” said Hawks coach Jeff Chillot, “but he can get from A to B in a really (short) time. He runs a 4.8 but he plays much faster.”

Ruiz was at his best in Friday’s 47-34 victory over Kutztown, rushing for a career-high 230 yards on just seven carries. He scored a career-high four touchdowns and has earned Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week honors.
“He’s a game-changer,” said Chillot. “Every time he touches the ball he expects to score.”
He almost does. Ruiz is averaging a staggering 14.9 yards per carry, tops in Berks among backs with 25 or more carries. Overall, he has rushed for 654 yards, with 13 touchdowns.
Ruiz can score in nearly every phase of the game. He has 11 receptions for 178 yards, with two touchdown catches. He also has an 89-yard kickoff return for a TD, against Wyomissing.
“He is a special player,” said Chillot.
Ruiz has topped 100 rushing yards in four of the Hawks’ six games. His 82-yard run against Tri-Valley is the second-longest scoring run in Berks this season.
Ruiz is the first Hamburg player selected Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week this season.
