Four takeaways from Week 6 of the high school football season:
1st Down: Where does Wyomissing go from here?

After such a stunningly decisive win at Southern Columbia, it seems pretty clear the Spartans are again a legit contender for a PIAA title in Class 3A.
They’ve been ranked No. 3 all season, behind North Schuylkill and Central Valley, and that’s unlikely to change this week because both of those teams continue to win.
No matter.
Looking ahead, the Spartans are headed back to the state playoffs — its unlikely any 3A teams in District 3 can mount much of a challenge.
Once there they’re likely to see Scranton Prep in the quarterfinals, then North Schuylkill or Notre Dame in the semifinals, then a rematch with Central Valley in the finals.
We’re getting ahead of ourselves here, of course, but it’s hard not to think big picture after the way they beat up on Southern, handed the Tigers their first home loss in seven seasons and ended the longest high school football winning streak on the planet.

2nd Down: Logan Klitsch is having a special season
The Conrad Weiser quarterback is tops in Berks in passing yards (1,357) and touchdowns (11), fifth in rushing yards (598) and second in touchdowns (16) — that’s all in six games.
He’s on pace to be just the eighth Berks quarterback to both pass and rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Not sure what the Berks record is for touchdown runs by a quarterback but by season’s end Klitsch is gonna have it.
A quick check shows that Aidan Brosious — of Conrad Weiser, interestingly — ran for 21 TDs in 2013. That same season, Exeter’s Chase Yocum ran for 19.
If not for Nick Singleton, Klitsch would have a chance to become the first quarterback to lead Berks in touchdowns scored.
Third Down: Back to normal in West Lawn

So, Wilson’s season isn’t over after all.
The Bulldogs sprung back to life with a 40-6 win on the road over a Penn Manor team that had won four of its first give games.
Yes, the Bulldogs always beat the Comets, but this one was significant, seeing as how they were coming on a rare home loss and had a losing record at midseason.
They’re still not out of the woods. At 3-3 they remain on the outside looking in at the District 3 Class 6A playoff field. They may need to win out to make the playoffs, meaning a Week 9 win at Hempfield (4-2) and a Week 10 win against Manheim Township (4-2).
All doable now that Jadyn Jones is back carrying the ball again, and as all those injuries began to heal.
Fourth Down: Don’t sleep on the Cougars

A couple years ago Kutztown couldn’t even finish football games, its roster was so thin.
There was no hope.
The numbers are still very low but the Cougars have become competitive within their league, and that needs to be noted. They have come a long way in a short time under head coach Larry Chester.
Friday they led three different times in the first half and went into halftime tied with Hamburg. This against a Hawks team which is now 5-1 and ranked third in the District 3 Class 3A playoff field.
