Five Fast Football Facts for Week 6

1

Diohnny Ruiz

Hamburg vs. Kutztown features two of Berks’ best, and fastest, running backs.

The Hawks’ Diohnny Ruiz averages 11.9 yards per carry, second only to Nick Singleton in Berks.

Kutztown’s Lennon Neiman is averaging 11.8 yards per carry and is second in Berks in rushing — to Singleton, of course — with 792 yards.

Matt Bauer

2

Exeter was dominated by Muhlenberg for decades — until Matt Bauer showed up in Reiffton.

The former Muhls tight end has turned the tide on his former team, winning 10 of the last 11 meetings.

Before Bauer became Eagles head coach in 2009 the Muhls led the series 25-8-1.

3

Wilson has a virtual stranglehold over Penn Manor. The Bulldogs are 29-0 all-time against the Comets, and most of the games haven’t been close. Over the last eight meetings Wilson’s average margin of victory is 27.4 points.

Over the 2012 and 2013 seasons the Comets almost ended the streak. They were 8-0 in 2012 but fell to Wilson 14-7. The next season they led 14-0, only to lose 21-14.

4

Gov. Mifflin is the highest-scoring Class 5A team in the state, at 50.2 points per game, but still a couple touchdowns short of the overall leader.

Steel-High, the defending PIAA Class 1 A champ, is averaging 64.7 points.

Trailing Steel-High and Mifflin among District 3 teams are: Boiling Springs (48.6), Bishop McDevitt (48.2) and Big Spring (47.0).

On the flip side the Frankford Pioneers of District 12 (Philadelphia) are No. 1 in scoring defense. Or non-scoring defense. They haven’t allowed a point in four games.

Trey Freeman

5

Twin Valley’s Trey Freeman needs just 82 receiving yards to move into Berks’ all-time Top 10.

He had five catches last week to become the Raiders’ all-time receiving leader, with 83 receptions.

With 1,660 career receiving yards he’s in range of the all-time Berks mark of 2,110, set by Wyomissing’s Nolan McCready.
