Golden Bears move up two spots, to No. 18, after opening win

Kutztown University climbed two spots in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) national poll following a season-opening 19-0 victory over Assumption University.

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rivals Slippery Rock and Indiana (Pa.) are Nos. 8 and 15, respectively.

The Golden Bears (1-0) meet Indiana in a nationally ranked matchup Saturday at Frank Cignetti Field at 2.

It will be the first road game for Kutztown, and the Crimson Hawks’ season opener. Kutztown has a 12-game road winning streak that dates to 2017.

KU defeated the Greyhounds last weekend for its third straight win in the mini non-conference season-opening rivalry that has evolved since 2015. The series is now even at three wins apiece, with Kutztown having outscored Assumption 105-44 in the last three meetings.

The Golden Bears’ last shutout in a season opener also came over a Northeast-10 opponent, Saint Anselm, by a 41-0 count in 2010
