Five Fast Football Facts for Week 12

1

Wyomissing has won eight straight District 3 playoff games, three short of the Berks record set by Berks Catholic. The Saints became the first Berks team to win three straight district championships, from 2015-17, and opened the 2018 tournament with two wins.

The Spartans have won three straight District 3 Class 3A titles; because of smaller fields and byes they have not played as many games as the Saints did during their run. If Wyomissing wins the championship this season it will extend its streak to 10 straight.

Wilson has twice strung together six consecutive district playoff wins.

The Saints went an incredible 16-1 in district play over a seven-year span, from 2013-18.

2

Hamburg’s Pierce Mason needs 10 yards to top Diohnny Ruiz’s single-season program rushing record of 1,313 yards.

Mason has 1,304 yards after going for 268 last week in a District 3 Class 3A quarterfinal win over Upper Dauphin. He scored four TDs last week to set the program record with 25 in a season.

3

Wilson and Cumberland Valley hold the record for most head-to-head District 3 meetings, with 13. (The Eagles lead that series, 7-6.)

Camp Hill has played York Catholic eight times; Cocalico has played Manheim Central eight times.

Wyomissing has played Littlestown seven times.

Wilson and Cumberland Valley can not meet in this year’s tournament until the championship game.

4

Manheim Central owns the record for most consecutive championship game appearances, with 10 (1992-2001).

Berks Catholic (2013-2019) and Bishop McDevitt (2009-2015) each made seven in a row.

No other Berks team has made more than three straight title games. Top-seeded Wyomissing can make a fourth straight this year.

5

Manheim Central has qualified for the District 3 Tournament a record 33 times.

Wilson and Cumberland Valley are each in their 30th tournament this season. Wyomissing is next at 29.

There’s a three-way tie for third place among Berks programs: Conrad Weiser, Holy Name and Gov. Mifflin have each qualified 17 times.
