Wyomissing’s defense was just as efficient as its offense. It shut down a Pioneers team that had been . Lampeter-Strasburg (6-1, 9-1) managed just 40 total yards in the first half and 81 overall.
The Pioneers made five first downs, didn’t have a play that went longer that 17 yards and had just three that went longer than 10 yards. Top receiver Hunter Hildenbrand, their top offensive weapon, went without a catch.
It was the first time they were shut out in a regular season game in 14 years, since losing to Garden Spot 31-0. They have been shut out just once since 2008, 7-0 in last year’s District 3 Class 4A championship game, by Bishop McDevitt.
The Spartans followed their opening drive with another beauty, going 64 yards on 11 plays to open a 14-0 lead. They mixed in a few passes, with Ben Zechman hooking up with William Delp for 32 yards, to the Lampeter 30.
Zechman kept the drive alive with a 16-yard pass to Caleb Brewer on third-and-10, getting a first down at the 14. Ryker Jones finished the drive with a 4-yard run around right end.
Kramer finished an 11-play drive with a 16-yard run in the final minute of the third quarter to make it 21-0.
The perfect regular season is the 11th in porgram history and third straight. Wyomissing has won 35 straight regular season games and has not lost a regular season game since 2018, when the current seniors were eighth-graders.
