Schuylkill Valley’s Noah Wamsher moves up in Specialist standings after strong Frost Bowl

Two big field goals in Schuylkill Valley’s Frost Bowl win over Hamburg have pushed Noah Wamsher into contention for the Berks County Specialist of the Year award.

The Panthers senior hit from 35 and 43 yards in the first half of the 41-34 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 victory that kept Schuylkill Valley unbeaten in league play. His second field goal came as time expired in the first half and pushed the Panthers’ lead to 27-6.

Wamsher is second in the Specialist of the Year standings behind Conrad Weiser’s Adam Noll, who leads with a 71.8 percentage in a formula that factors field goal and PAT accuracy, field goal length, punting, kickoffs and points scored.

Wamsher is at 62.8 percent; Berks Catholic’s Andrew Kurtas is third (58.9%) and Gov. Mifflin’s Jackson Schools (46.1%) fourth.

Wamsher has been good on 26-of-26 PATs and 4-of-5 field goals, and has 13 touchbacks.

Noll and Kurtas lead with five field goals apiece. Schools has the longest field goal of the season, a 51-yarder against Conestoga Valley in Week 7.

Noll has been good on 15-of-16 PATs and 5-of-9 field goals, has eight touchbacks and a 39.1 punting average, which ranks second in Berks. Wyomissing’s Ryker Jones leads in punting with a 41.1-yard average.

Schools is 23-for-24 on PATs and 3-for-4 on field goals.

Wyomissing’s Ian Levering is the leading scorer with 51 points. He is 48-for-50 on PATs. Hamburg’s Eli Blatt, who also kicked two field goals in the Frost Bowl, is second with 46 points.

Fleetwood’s Cole Pennypacker leads with 15 touchbacks.

The Specialist of the Year standings are based on rankings of extra-point and field goal accuracy, field goal length, touchbacks and punting average.

John Zima, founder of Kick-It and special teams coach at Wyomissing, collects the data and computes the standings. He awards the top finishers at the annual Berks County Football Coaches Association banquet each season. This is the fifth season of the award.
