10 Questions with Schuylkill Valley QB Michael Goad, presented by UECU

Michael Goad

Senior center

Q: If you were having someone over for dinner and it was up to you to do the cooking (no ordering takeout!), what would be on the menu?

I make great Southwest sauteed chicken. A few of the guys on the team have had a special honor of trying my chicken and they were big fans.

Q: Who’s the best football player ever to play for Schuylkill Valley?

Steve Kreider (a 1975 graduate). He played wide receiver for the Bengals in the late 70’s to the mid 80’s. He was a part of that Bengals team that lost to the 49ers in the Super Bowl (in 1981). Steve Kreider certainly achieved a lot.

Q: Who’s the high school player you most looked up to when you were a kid?

(Former Schuylkill Valley quarterback) Anakin Glassmire would sometimes come by (our youth practices) after his practice and coach me on technique. It was really cool to have that experience; I thought he was really cool for that and now I have a ton of respect for him.

Q: Halloween’s coming up: What’s the first candy you’re stealing from your little brother or sister’s stash? And what’s the one you won’t touch?

I won’t eat any of those Almond Joys. Coconut is not meant to be put in a chocolate bar. I am definitley  reaching for a Snickers first.

Q: Who’s the hardest-working player on your team?

This is a tough question. There are so many guys who are working hard to make themselves and everyone else better.

(Senior defensive end) Ethan Swoyer is a guy who every day is going 100 percent, whether he’s playing on defense or scout team, it does not matter to him.

He gets on himself and everyone else to make sure guys are going the extra mile to make everyone better. He works hard for our team.

Q: Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter?

I follow an account called “RandomTomBradyHighlights.” I love scrolling through and seeing a perfect throw from Brady. There aren’t as many things as satisfying as a perfectly executed football play.

Q: What’s your all-time favorite football movie?

Remember the Titans.” Seeing the team go through so much but then be able to put it all together and have success always feels rewarding. Back when my hair was longer, our O-line coach, Coach (Tim) Kier, used to call me ‘Sunshine.’ That was a special tie to the movie.

Q: Outside of sports what’s your best skill?

I have very strong people skills. I am very good at communicating with every demographic. I have very good speaking and listening skills that make me a strong leader. Luckily for me, it translates very well to sports.

Q: What’s a successful football season for Schuylkill Valley?

We want to compete for a section championship. That’s our goal, and every week we do our best to work towards that goal. This season needs to be a season where we set a new culture. We need to make sure we are doing all the right things at practice, in the locker room, and in the classroom. We needed to install a culture of working hard all game and all season. As a senior, my job is to set the foundation and expectations of the future. A lot of good progress has been made.

Q: What’s the one question you were hoping to be asked, but weren’t?

I wish I was asked who my hero was so I could give a shout-out to my mom and dad. They have been my biggest supports and I can not thank them enough.
