WFA Hall of Fame to induct Ray Linn, four former Wyomissing players
Former West Reading head coach Ray Linn and four former Wyomissing players will be inducted into the 11th class of the Wyomissing Football Association Hall of Fame Saturday.
The ceremony will begin at 12:55 at the A-Field, where the Spartans will kick off against Cocalico, at 1:30.
Also set for induction are Patrick McDonough, Josh Seiders, Brian Shoop and Jon Weiss.
Linn coached the Cowboys from 1951-54 on the way to becoming one of the top coaches in Berks football history.
His West Reading teams went 27-7-1 over four seasons, including an unbeaten season in 1952 when the Cowboys outscored their opponents 215-51 over eight games. West Reading was not affiliated with a league at that time.
Linn went on to coach Gov. Mifflin for 21 seasons, over two stints, winning 124 games and six Tri-County League titles. His 25 seasons as a head coach was a Berks record when he retired following the 1987 season; his 151 victories matched the record set by Wilson’s John Gurski (since broken).

At West Reading, Linn coached several WFA Hall of Famers, including Dan Ciervo, Dan Capozello and Bob Bright.
McDonough was a team captain and two-year starter in 2005-06. As a fullback, he rushed for 1,212 yards and scored 12 TDs as a senior, helping the Spartans go 14-1 and win a District 3 Class AA championship.
He was an All-Berks pick and a second-team linebacker selection on the Class AA All-State team.
McDonough went on to play at Muhlenberg College where he was a three-time All-Centennial League pick, a two-time team MVP, a Centennial League Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time All-American.
Seiders, who played from 1994-97, was a two-year starter at both linebacker and offensive line and an all-league pick at both spots. As a senior he led the team with 110 tackles and 16 tackles for losss.
He was a four-year starter at Juniata College where he was captain as a senior and earned all-league and All-American third-team honors. Seiders set the program record for tackles in a season at 135.
Shoop was Inter-County League Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior in 2001, when the Spartans went 12-1 and won league and district titles. He was a team captain and an All-Berks pick on both the offensive and defensive lines.
He was a three-year starter on both offense and defense and a two-time all-league pick on both sides of the ball.
Weiss was the Inter-County Offensive Lineman of the Year in 1990, helping the Spartans to their second straight 12-1 finish and their first District 3 championship.
He played practically every down, including special teams, as the Spartans won back-to-back Inter-County League championships.
There were four inductees in the Class of 2021: Jeff Binder, Gregory Lord, Michael Mancias and Al Silveri.
The Wyomissing Football Association Hall of Fame was initiated in 2012.
