Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week: It’s Cam Jones (again)
Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week
Cam Jones’ chances of being selected Defensive Player of the Week this season are slim. The two-time all-league cornerback is just too good at that spot to come up with many interceptions or pass break-ups.
“They don’t throw at him,” said Wilson coach Doug Dahms.
Opposing teams have tried not to kick to the Holy Cross commit, either. That plan hasn’t worked out too well. Unless the ball ends up in the stands there’s a good chance he’ll snag it and take it back to the house.
He did again Saturday, returning a punt 56 yards for the opening score in a 32-14 win over Gov. Mifflin.

That touchdown, plus two more to follow, earned Jones Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
The Player of the Week honor is the fifth for Jones. Last season he was twice named Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week, mostly because of his kick return acumen.
He was also selected once last year as Defensive Player of the Week.
Jones set a program — and most certainly a Berks County — record last season by returning seven kicks for touchdowns: Four punts and three kickoffs.
Despite securing the reputation as an elite return man Jones continues to get his chances.
Not many, mind you, but he’s made the most of them. He has fielded five punts this season; four have ended up in the zone. He’s averaging 52.8 yards on punt returns.
“Cam sees the field better than anyone we’ve ever had,” said Dahms. “He’s a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball.”
He now has an incredible 11 special teams touchdowns in Wilson’s last 19 games.
Jones began the year as a wide receiver but stepped into tailback spot early in the season due to an injury to Cleveland Harding. After what he’s done out of the backfield it’s going to be tough to move him back to receiver.
Saturday he ran for 139 yards on 17 carries, with touchdown runs of 9 and 29 yards. He also ran for a two-point conversion.
He leads the team with 478 rushing yards. He’s run for 12 TDs and scored a team-leading 17 touchdowns overall, including one on a reception.
As a junior Jones was a dominant force and on his way to becoming one of the most versatile and talented players in program history. He earned All-State honors on the Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 6A All-State team and was the only player in the Lancaster-Lebanon League to earn all-league honors at four spots: He was first team at defensive back, kick returner and Athlete and a second-team pick at wide receiver. He was named Defensive Back of the Year in Section 1 and an All-Berks pick at defensive back.
Saturday, it was more about team achievement than individual recognition. The Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing streak to the Mustangs, who claimed the coveted Gurski-Linn Trophy via the mercy rule the last two seasons.
“It’s a big honor to bring the trophy back home,” Jones said. “They had our number the last couple of years, but we got it back. Beating Mifflin is always our first goal every season, and we can cross that one off now. We got the trophy back, and now we can keep going.”
