Wyomissing remains ranked No. 2; Gov. Mifflin dropped from state rankings
Wyomissing showed why it entered the season ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 3A, pummelling Kennard-Dale 49-0 in its season-opener Saturday.
The Spartans scored on their first offensive snap, were up 28-0 at the half and allowed just 67 total yards.
The Spartans remain behind Belle Vernon, which was playing a second scrimmage last weekend. The Leopards open their regular season Friday against Laurel Highlands.
Exeter, which opened with a 35-0 win over Daniel Boone, remains No. 7 in Class 5A. Gov. Mifflin, which had been No. 8 in that class, dropped out of the rankings after a 21-10 loss to Spring-Ford.
Wilson, listed as a Team to Watch in Class 6A, has been removed from that list after a 46-15 loss to Roman Catholic. Berks Catholic remains in the Class 3A Teams to Watch after a 34-21 loss to Loyalsock.
One of the top-ranked teams in the PennLive.com rankings lost its opener: St. Joseph’s Prep. The Class 6A powerhouse Hawks lost 48-37 to St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) in a game televised on ESPN. The Hawks play a little closer to home this week, at St. Peter’s Prep in New Jersey. They won’t play a game in Pennsylvania until opening their Catholic League schedule Sept. 30 against Achbishop Wood.
St. Joseph’s Prep remains at No. 1, as do each of the other top-ranked teams with the exception of Class 1A Bishop Canevin. The Crusaders lost to Steel-High 21-14. The Rollers are now No. 1.Β
Manheim Central, at No. 9 in Class 4A, is the only other Lancaster-Lebanon League team in the Top 10.
