‘Starting Lineup,’ now complete, features the top dozen players in Berks football
The “Starting Lineup” roster is now complete. It includes the top 12 football players in Berks County, led by Penn State recruits Jven Williams of Wyomissing and Joey Schlaffer of Exeter. It includes three other players who have committed, or are about to, to Division I programs, plus several others being closely watched by FCS or BCS programs.
All 12 will be playing college football at this time next year.
The 12 players represent seven schools, with Exeter and Wyomissing each claiming three spots, and Gov. Mifflin two.
The team is heavy at quarterback, with four — or maybe five, if Schlaffer earn that position. It’s also deep at at defensive back, with four safeties and two cornerbacks. Each of the 11 positions on offense and defense are represented. There are also several kick-returners — plus at least one long-snapper.
The “Starting Lineup” team was selected by MikeDragoSports.com, with input from Berks high school and college coaches and Ross Tucker, co-founder and CEO of GoBigRecruiting.com and a former NFL lineman. Tucker, who played at Wyomissing, has deep contacts throughout college football and remains dialed into Berks football.
Players were selected based on past performance, expected contributions this season and college potential. Two-way players were given special consideration.
On Sunday the “Berks Watch List” will be presented. It includes more than five dozen of the other top players in Berks in addition to the 12 selected here.
